Fashion Media Design, Hong Kong Design Institute
Kyle Wu
Since most of our students are part of generation Z, their learning styles are different comparing to when we were students ourselves. As a result, we needed to rethink the relationship between lectures and tutorials. Through the advance of social media, internet, YouTube etc., students can obtain basic content and information much easier than before. In response, we have rearranged the proportion between lectures and tutorials to four tutorials to one lecture. This increase of tutorial time enables students to experience and grow through project-based learning. The get our comments and feedback on their work through interactive tutorials instead of through one-way style lectures.
Through project-based learning, students can better understand the standards and perspectives from the fashion industry and the brands. This helps them to be equipped better and be more ready to become part of the industry upon graduation. Project based learning also helps students understand that design is an service in which you help someone, a client to solve problems. Students aquire a strong sense of branding awareness, the technical skills required in the fashion industry and get familiar with the pacing of fashion business projects.
