ZHdK fund for international and intercultural student projects, Zurich University of the Arts

Florence Balthasar

The International Affairs office issues a yearly call for proposals for international/intercultural projects of students from all disciplines on both BA and MA levels. The chosen topic is fully left up to the students. It must have an international/intercultural component and be of high quality within the discipline of the student. The project can be a part of their BA or MA education, but it can also be a “free project.” We fund circa 7 projects/year for a max of 5’000 CHF per project.

For example, one recent student project in 2023 was ‘fête finale’, a gathering about death and what connects us in life by Donia Sbika in collaboration with Lethlogonolo Sicelo. Death and life are inseparably linked. Yet why do we often shy away from discussing it? To delve into this question, Donia Sbika initiated a collaboration with the South African musician and healer Lethlogonolo Sicelo. Together, they question themselves and other people about their concepts and practices surrounding death and thus come to terms with their own mortality.
